My Work
The Psychodynamic model of counselling underpins all of my work. Established, proven and well-known, it focuses on problem resolution and developing personal insight. By discussing past experiences, examining existing relationships and talking through your issues, we work towards overcoming your past and present hurt, helping you to build a fresh foundation for a healthy future.
My Approach
Whilst the Psychodynamic modality is my base model, I adopt an integrative approach. This means that I draw on various therapeutic approaches and strategies in order to adapt to you as an individual. The changes are long lasting, as we explore the root causes of your struggles and aim to work through them, rather than just trying to manage the resulting symptoms, or 'paper over the cracks'. Subsequently, you develop the tools to deal more effectively with past and present challenges and to make more insightful decisions in the future.
I work with adults from across a wide sector of the community who present a range of issues, including:
- Family, Parenting & Relationship issues
- Self-Esteem Issues
- Unresolved Childhood Issues
- Self-Harm
- Attachment Disorders
- Aggression & Violence
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Sexuality
- Anger
- Panic & Panic Attacks
- Anxiety & Stress
- Body Image
- Child & Adolescent Issues
- Depression
- Anorexia
- Disordered Eating
- Chronic Shyness
- Affairs and Betrayals
- Emotional Abuse
- Grief, Loss & Bereavement
- Bullying
- Unexplained Sadness
- Feeling Lost: lacking a sense of direction or purpose in life
- LGBT Issues
- Intimate Relationship Issues
- Trauma
- Work Issues and Redundancy
- Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)
I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you will be able to discuss the problems and issues you are struggling with. The work may well involve exploring uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, however, you are in control of the pace of the work and it may take time before you feel able to discuss the difficult feelings you are experiencing. I will listen and support you unconditionally as we work towards you gaining a better understanding of yourself and your situation.
Video Counselling Sessions
In addition to face-to-face counselling, I also offer 1 to 1 counselling through the video conferencing application, Zoom.
Although online sessions offer more flexibility around time and schedules, punctuality and commitment are just as important. As with face-to-face work, privacy is extremely important. I work in a safe, private environment with no interruptions and if Zoom sessions are to be effective, it will be necessary for you to also find a quiet and private space, with no interruptions, for each online appointment.
You will need to feel able to speak freely without the concern you may be being overheard. These prerequisites help to ensure that privacy and confidentiality are maintained in the work.
